Indian Mathematics

Indian Mathematics
  • A method to calculate π :

During the "Kerala School" Period (1300-1600), Indians made the mathematics progress, especially for the calculations of infinite series. Because of that, they were able to discover a serie (an infinite sum) which allows us to approach π, thanks to the alternation of the sign of each added term : the first one is 4, the second one -4/3, the next one 4/5 ... The equation of this serie is just above.

However, we need to calculate a lot of terms to have a close value of π, so this is a simple method to calculate the number, but not the most practical or the fastest.
